Roots Down, Branches Out

Syrian Refugee Welcome Picnic

This Welcome Picnic is organised by Christ Church with the help of Muslim Welfare House and is part of the effort to help often traumatised families to find their way in a new country with very little resources at their disposal.

The Syrian families that we are most involved with are part of the Islington Council programme housing Syrian Refugees who have been living in refugee camps and accepted by the UN as vulnerable families in need of help.

The families we have met are lovely with the most delightful children but they struggle with the English Language and dealing with officialdom. They are all having  to deal with after effects of serious trauma, personal injury and the loss of close family members.  At Christ Church we hope that events like the Picnic/ Barbecue will begin to forge relationships between members of our congregation and individual families. They live in Islington and are definitely our neighbours.

We are putting together a team to help with the organisation. There is a sign up sheet at the Welcome Desk. However don’t worry if you are unable to give the time to help what really would like is you to come and the more children the better.
