We hope that music at Christ Church provides something for everyone, old and young, traditional or contemporary, regular member or guest. To find out more about upcoming events please regularly check this web site.
There are many opportunities to use musical gifts at Christ Church Highbury and we are always looking for more people to join our music and worship team in our varied calendar. Below is a brief outline of some of the ways that you can get involved. If you are interested in finding out more then please e-mail our Director of Musical Worship, Rachel Maby
On Sunday mornings we have two services, one at 9am which is quite traditional and is usually accompanied by organ and/or piano, and a lively family service at 11am in which there is the opportunity to either sing in our choir or play your instrument in the band.
The choir and instrumentalists rehearse from 10am before the 11am service. We would like to hear from singers and instrumentalists interested taking part in the music worship leadership, even if you cannot commit to weekly services. Singers do no have to be able to read music, only a passion and ability to sing in an ensemble. Instrumentalists must be grade 1 upwards and have the ability to read music or chords. To join our musical team or find out more about taking part, please email
We have a thriving children’s work at Christ Church and we actively encourage children to join in our music-making on a regular basis, especially in our all-age family services! We have a children’s choir, which rehearses from 10.40am before the 11am service. This is a great opportunity for children to learn both traditional and new hymns /fellowship songs and take an active part in leading the congregation in musical worship. There is also an opportunity for instrumentalists grade 1 and above to play in the church instrumental ensemble on an ad hoc basis. If you would like your child to be involved in our 11am services, please email
Our seasonal services are some of the highlights of the year and for our music and worship team this is no exception. At Harvest, Christmas, and Easter, we would love to welcome additional singers and instrumentalists to take part.
Monthly Jazz Vespers
Our evening service Jazz Vespers take place on the fourth Sunday of the month at 6.30pm – come for coffee beforehand at 6pm, and join in prayer, worship, and all kinds of new and familiar music. This is a real highlight of the church’s calendar and shouldn’t be missed! This service is led by our former Director of Music, Scott Stroman, who is a Jazz professor at the Guildhall School of Music and our current music and choir director, Rachel Maby. The Vespers is lead by the Christ Church jazz choir and professional jazz instrumental trio. There is an opportunity to sing with the choir and help lead the music workshop in the service each month, with a rehearsal taking place from 5pm before each service. To email your interest, please contact Rachel Maby
You don’t have to be musical to help with the music at Christ Church! There is a fair amount of support that we need on a weekly basis, including operating our mixing desk, our projection system, and helping out with re-arranging the church for seasonal services. Commitment to suit your availability. Please get in touch to find out more.
Recitals and Room Hire
At Christ Church we welcome the opportunity to open our doors to musical societies throughout the area. The church is home to local choirs Eclectic Voices and Highbury Young Singers as well as a range of other groups who regularly put on performances at the church – we’ve even had a Jonathan Dove opera premiere here! To find out more about hiring the space for rehearsals and/or performances please contact our Administrator Juliette Soanes
