Roots Down, Branches Out

Christ Church is a member of Citizens UK. We are working together to bring about change for the common good in Highbury.

About Citizens UK

Citizens UK is the home of community organising in the UK, with diverse civil society alliances in London, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Birmingham, Wales and Leeds.

Citizens UK organises communities to act together for power, social justice and the common good.

About Community Organising

Community organising is democracy in action: winning victories that change lives and transform communities.

Community Organising is based on the principle that when people work together they have the power to change their neighbourhoods, cities, and ultimately the country for the better.

Community organisers work with people who want to transform the world, from what it is to what they believe it should be. This is done through listening and asking members of the community about their concerns and developing strategies to improve the welfare of everyone in the community.

Citizens UK Housing Campaign

Christ Church Highbury is currently involved in Citizens UK’s campaign to tackle the London Housing Crisis.

We are listening to our Highbury neighbours’ concerns about housing. Through listening we are seeking to engage with other institutions and groups in Highbury to take local action together to address these problems.

On April 28th 2016, Christ Church Highbury is joining 6,000 other Citizens UK members to the Mayoral Accountability Assembly at the Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, to ask the London Mayoral candidates Zac Goldsmith and Saddiq Khan to commit to addressing three housing problems:
• Soaring rents in London
• Rogue landlords
• Poor quality of social housing
