Roots Down, Branches Out

Christ Church Music Worship is lead by Music Director Rachel Maby and organist/pianist, James Buckham. The Music team are all volunteers from our congregation and parish. We are always looking for more singers, instrumentalists and sound technicians to take part in our services. Here’s how you can get involved:

11am Sunday service

Christ Church Music Directors rehearse the music team from 10-10.50am prior to the service. Our team includes 12 singers and 5 instrumentalists, including a mix of abilities, from non-readers to proficient sight-readers, and a range of ages, from eleven years old to retirees. If you do not read music, you must be able to read chords if you’re an instrumentalist or learn by ear if you’re a singer.

The participation commitment for music team musicians is flexible but on the first Sunday of every month we feature a four-part harmony choir (music is sent in advance) and on the third Sunday of every month we host a cellist from Cello Corner to play during communion.

Please get in touch with Music Director, Rachel Maby if you’d like to take part, or simply turn up on a Sunday at 10am. It’s the perfect environment to build on your current musical experience and develop musicianship skills needed in ensemble playing. All enquiries are most welcome.

Christ Church Jazz Choir

Christ Church Jazz Choir is an SATB choir of twelve singers directed by Rachel Maby, who lead the music worship alongside Christ Church jazz band at our monthly jazz vespers. The choir rehearse from 3.30pm prior to the 6.30pm service and music is sent a week in advance with learning tracks. You therefore do not have to be able to read music to be part of the choir, but you must be a confident jazz/soul soloist and ensemble singer.

Christ Church Jazz Singers

Christ Church Community Jazz Choir is an un-auditioned group of singers who co-lead the music worship at our monthly jazz vespers service, alongside our Christ Church Jazz Choir and band. The choir rehearses from 4.30pm before the 6.30pm service. Singers are sent music a week in advance with learning tracks. You therefore do not have to be able to read music or have any prior ensemble singing experience to take part.

Sound and Audio team

We have a pool of volunteers who live mix and organise the video projection at our 11am Sunday services and monthly jazz vespers. We are always looking for more volunteers and training is provided for those with no experience. To express interest in joining the team, please get touch with the main office
